Decoding the IEP: Forming a Partnership and Actively Participating in the IEP Process

Another school year is beginning and that means at some point you will meet with your school team to develop your child's Individual Education Program (IEP). Having a positive relationship with the school team is critical for your child's success. In this session we will discuss tips for working as partners with your school team and walk through each section of an IEP. As we explore the sections we will discuss key features, the role of evidence based practices and important questions to ask.
Extra-curricular Activities: Preparing Your Child for the Rules, the Game, and the Social Interactions

Whether it's swimming, soccer, or band practice, this session is designed to support those extra-curricular activities. We will discuss implementation of materials and strategies provided to navigate less structured environments, understand the rules (hidden and unhidden), and employ social thinking strategies to support relationships with coaches and teammates.
Expect the Unexpected with Ease: Establishing Routines at Home and in the Community

Join this session and leave with a wide variety of materials to support your families' routines at home and in the community. We will discuss how tools for executive functioning can decrease stress and take the guess work out of getting ready for school, running errands, or going on family vacation.
Homework Hotline: Establishing Homework Routines and Strategies to Support Learning

Set your child up for success by using evidence based practices to support organization, time management, and independence. In this session will discuss a variety of ways to organize homework (and chores) and manage time to reduce stress and increase task completion. We will also practice easy to use teaching strategies to supplement the content and IEP goals addressed at school.
Promoting Self- Advocacy through Functional and Social Communication

Nothing rings more true than when we say, "All behavior is communication." Addressing behavior challenges is not a compliance game. It is a teaching game. Ensuring our children can efficiently get their basic needs met, advocate for themselves, and safely interact with the world is a goal we all share. In this session, we will take a deep dive into specific ways to enhance functional and social communication to promote self-management and advocacy.
